Last week, I proudly sent my review of a popular ookstore to the one who recruited me to be their mystery shopper. The fee? Php1000 in GC of the bookstore. Mystery shopping is an ideal job for me. I am very particular about the service I receive and really take my responsibility seriously. It helps too that I am, what is coloquially known as pintasera. Although on the upside, when I am happy with the service provided, I am yours for life.
Anyway back to working for books.
This is a portion of the envelop which held the gift certificate. Don't wanna show you which bookstore is it. You might just get it in your head to do what I did. I love my gift certificates, thank you. And I don't really care to share this one.
Earlier today, I received confirmation that my gift certificate is ready for pick up. So here I am now, at Bo's Coffee Club, waiting for my next meeting, basking in the afterglow of a couple of new books. I got Inkheart, which I am gifting my nephew and godson, Axel, who celebrated his birthday a few days back. The 2nd book I bought is The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl. It's about a small group of elite scholars who are translating The Divine Comedy back in 1865. Sounds boring. Until the series of murders started. Hah! I'm hooked! I just have to read and find out what happens.
A gift and a new book? Not bad for not spending a dime.
Then, I got talked into hosting a game for book lovers called Book Geek. The fee? More bookstore gift certificates! AY LAB ET!!!!!
Speaking of Book Geek, I had really put my heart into this because I love books and it is my humble opinion that Filipinos do not read enough books. I mean, sure, bookstores experience stock outs. But this usually happens when the book has been turned into a movie. Harry Potter, Twilight and Inkheart are cases in point. Take Artemis Fowl. It's a fantastic series but it hasn't enjoyed the popularity I firmly believe it deserves.
But I digress.
For the whole of 2009, I will be working for books monthly. I hope it never ends. Do you have any jobs for me? I work for books.

Me too! I would love to work for books. The geek in me is jumping like crazy at the mention of the word "book". I'm on a manhunt for one particular classic book where it's out of stock everywhere. Literally... Drat!
Speaking of which, I need to fax a receipt... =P
