Happyness

Less than an hour before midnight on this Book Geek Saturday and I’m HAPPY. Yes, happy. I mean really, really happy.

After last month’s train wreck of a Book Geek (Yes, that’s the reason I couldn’t write about it. I didn’t want my self-loathing to be public. (Hey, now it is!!!)), Fully Booked Book Geek March can be qualified as a success. We improved the mechanics, and the change did the whole proceedings well. In fact, the whole affair was a vast improvement from the previous month. The mood was lighter, the contestants were very participative, there was a lot of laughter. All these things helped me do my job better.

We still don’t have a full house but at least we have broken the one-digit mark. We had a few returns. And hopefully next month, we will have more.

Naj, a friend who also does my make up for this monthly pleasure for free (Thanks, Naj! Everyone said I looked great! If anybody’s interested to get her very affordable services, drop me a comment. I’ll send you her contact details.), said that we’re building a community. Hear that Mimi Cheko? We’re building a community.
I did feel that way earlier. Mitsi Girl returned. Had a few words with her and her mom. Katy graduated from college yesterday. And it’s her sister’s turn today. Blue emerged this month’s Book Geek and left her number, asking us to send her stuff we want published in her newspaper. Aside from that, she brought two of her friends to join. One of them, Sweetie, was also among the finalists. Vangie, another returnee, also ended up in the finals.

We had a lot of good feedback from the audience and the contestants. One of the suggestions will already be incorporated in the next one. (Thanks to Pao. Hope I see you in April.)

After the Book Geek, I returned to being just Dementia and enjoyed the company of friends. I brought them to one of our branches and scratched my face value. Magenta, who served as the Book Geek judge, jokingly asked me shouldn’t I need to present my ID so that our barista can photocopy it and have me sign it. Doesn’t really sound funny, unless you passed through a certain spa’s service entrance. (Oh, I would love to explain Magenta’s joke but I don’t want to be sued for libel. I assure you it would be true, except I don’t have any evidence in my hand to prove it.)

I spent the rest of the evening with Magenta. We updated each other about things happening in our lives, work mostly. I learned about the latest incidents at her employment. And I told her about mine. And we talked about people we both knew, like Benedict, Augie, Flash, MM, and Kumander. And I told her about the new people I have encountered, like Superman and the Justice League, Santa, 6M$ Man, and other people from the Land Down Under. (Yes, there are new characters coming in. So make sure you get those correctly because you might read about them again.)

We talked about being single and about men—past, present and future, good ones and bad ones, the ones that were and the ones who could be. And we made plans for next week. The hours just passed us by. We finally parted around 10pm.

Oh, it’s a happy day. A happy day indeed.

The one sore spot of the day is the absence of Mimi Cheko, the Book Geek was as much her baby as it’s mine. But she’s having a very difficult pregnancy. Take care of yourself, Mimi.

This Saturday was really swell. A good event. A good chat with a friend. And after a very hard Friday, it is very much appreciated.
